Location of Geist Reservoir
Geist is located in northeast of Indianapolis at the intersection of 3 counties: Marion County, Hamilton County and Hancock County. Four cities or towns surround the reservoir: Fishers, Lawrence, Fortville and McCordsville.
Geist Reservoir was named after Clarence Geist, a former owner of the Indianapolis Water Company. Geist foresaw a coming water shortage to the Indianapolis area after determining that Fall Creek and the White River would not be able to keep up with the needs of a growing Indianapolis. To remedy this problem, Geist bought about 5,000 acres of land including the small town of Germantown. The reservoir was finished in 1943.
A housing and commercial boom developed in the 1970′s and today Geist is one of the most highly sought after locations to purchase a home.
